New Veterans Affairs facility planned for West Oahu

A new Veterans Affairs facility aimed at alleviating Hawaii's worst wait times in the nation may be coming to West Oahu, according to public documents.
In a report released by the Hawaii Community Development Authority earlier this month, the state agency, which regulates development in the West Oahu town of Kalaeloa, revealed plans for such a project.
The HCDA's staff held a teleconference with Honolulu architecture firm Ferraro Choi & Associates Ltd. regarding the design of a new Veterans facility at the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station that borders Kapolei.
Several years ago, VA Pacific Islands Health Care System had plans to build a 160,000-square-foot VA clinic in West Oahu, which had been approved by the federal government. The "Advance Leeward Outpatient Healthcare Access" center or ALOHA project had been stuck in the middle of several other similar projects across the country. It would've been about twice the size of the Spark M. Matsunaga VA Medical Center at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, which is Hawaii's largest VA clinic.
The Pacific Islands Health Care System estimated that more than 20,000 veterans annually would've been using the new facility.
Joe Ferraro, president of Ferraro Choi, declined comment on the project, citing confidentiality agreements he's currently under.

Jeff Probst, the Emmy Award-winning host of the reality television series “Survivor,” has purchased an estate within the Hualalai Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii’s west coast for $4.85 million, Shimogawa Scoops has learned. New Italian, BBQ restaurants opening at Hawaii Kai Shopping Center

  Hawaii Kai Shopping Center, which is anchored by a newly-renovated and expanded Safeway store, is adding an Italian restaurant in the vacant former Pizza Hut space as well as a well-known barbecue restaurant and bar, Shimogawa Scoops has learned. Tex 808 BBQ & Brews has confirmed that it is moving from the neighboring Hawaii Kai Towne Center to the marina-facing side of the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center adjacent to Liko’s Tap & Table. Meantime, a few doors down, a new Italian restaurant called “Repetti’s Provisions” is opening in the former 1,230-square-foot Pizza Hut space that’s next to Island Brew. The new eatery filed a permit for this space this week.
